Greetings, Students.
Research Harriet Tubman’s biography. How did she change the course of American history as a liberator, spy, and guide?

Also consider how this information affirms, changes, or challenges your understanding of Harriet Tubman, the job of a spy, and/or environmentalism during the slave area in American History?

I've always known that Harriet Tubman escaped, although I didn't know that she had ran thirteen missions which gave freedom to many other slaves at the time.
ReplyDeleteHarriet Tubman was an African-American abolitionist, humanitarian, and Union spy during the American Civil War. When we learn about Harriet Tubman we tend not to think of her as more than a woman who lead enslaved Africans to freedom. I've never given much thought as to how she went about doing this. It's interesting to think about how she did this, she must have had to have great knowledge about the land, possibly making her an environmentalist
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing the knowledge that she possessed in order to get back and forth freeing countless slaves.
ReplyDelete"I could have freed more, if I could have convinced them that they were slaves." I don't know exactly what this means. I have my guesses but I'm not entirely sure. It was a quote from Harriet Tubman that she made when receiving an award for freeing 500 slaves.
ReplyDeleteHarriet had to be aware of her surroundings in order to travel hundreds maybe even thousands of people to the north over and over again. This woman's courage had to be worn on her sleeve and she had to show bravery in order for other people to not get frightened.
ReplyDeleteHarriett Tubman helped lead people through the underground railroad. She got rid of anyone who was slowing her down and or had second thoughts about escaping and finding freedom. Tubman was brave and very smart, her legacy continues now today. Although she was a woman she had male features she helped teach others not to be afraid. Throughout my years of education Harriet Tubman has always been discussed during Civil Rights and Black History classes.
ReplyDeleteI always knew that Harriet Tubman had helped free many slaves. I was unaware that she was a spy and an environmentalist. That is very interesting.
